The new 2023 Ford Explorer® SUV boasts three exceptional engine options. With each engine offering impressive capability and towing capacity, the Explorer is equipped to take on any adventure that comes your way.
The Base, XLT, ST-Line, Timberline®, and Limited models come with a 2.3L EcoBoost® I-4 Engine, providing 300 horsepower, 310 lb.-ft. of torque, and this powertrain has an EPA-estimated fuel economy of up to 21 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway.
The ST, King Ranch, and Platinum models rely on the 3.0L EcoBoost® V6 engine with Auto Start-Stop Technology as their power source. This advanced engine utilizes turbocharging and direct injection to generate an impressive 400 hp, 415 lb.-ft of torque, and an EPA-estimated fuel economy of up to 18 mpg/city and 26 mpg/highway.
The Explorer® Limited Hybrid and Platinum Hybrid models are equipped with a 3.3L V6 Hybrid engine that generates 318 hp and 322 lb.-ft of torque while also being fuel-efficient with an EPA-estimation up to 27 mpg/city and 28 mpg/highway. In addition, these models have a towing capacity of up to 5,000 pounds.
While the new Ford Explorer is based on a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) platform, it does offer an optional all-wheel drive (AWD). Moreover, a 10-speed automatic transmission is standard on all models.
Exterior and Interior Features
On the exterior, the Timberline Explorer is designed to handle rough terrain with its 8.66-inch ground clearance, steel skid plates, and off-road suspension. It also boasts 18-inch all-terrain tires, unique badging, and auxiliary lighting provisions.
All Ford Explorer models, except for the Base model, feature a twin-panel moonroof that serves as more than just an illumination source. The moonroof provides an expansive and unobstructed view of the sky, allowing you to enjoy the sun's warmth as you ride around town.
In the interior, the PowerFold® third-row seats, which are readily available, provide the flexibility to accommodate passengers and cargo in the Ford Explorer® SUV. The vehicle can carry up to seven individuals when the seats are up, and they can be effortlessly folded down to provide additional cargo space in no time.

Safety features on the new Ford Explorer include Pre-Collision Assist®, Rear View Camera, Auto High-Beam (AHB), Blind-Spot Information System (BLIS®), and more.
The Auto High-Beam Headlamps are designed to detect low-light situations and activate to illuminate the road ahead, providing you with enhanced visibility. These headlamps also have a feature that automatically dims the light when they detect oncoming headlights, allowing you to maintain focus and keep both hands on the steering wheel without needing manual adjustment.
Technology Features
This vehicle has standard technology features, including an 8-inch touchscreen, Wi-Fi hotspot, Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, voice recognition, and more. You can also upgrade to an optional 10.1-inch touchscreen and wireless charging, among other features.
