This new fundamental Ford pickup comes with skid plates to protect the under-side components when you're taking on rocky, untamed terrain. There's an electronic locking rear differential so you can let the two back wheels turn at the same time when you need more traction than usual – like when you're on a fairly intense visit to your favorite mud pits. Then Ford adds hill-descent control, hefty all-terrain tires and specially-tuned off-road shocks.
Here's what we're hearing about the engine and the interior
Many details haven't been officially announced but the word is that you'll have more than one engine choice that should include the 2.7-liter V6 EcoBoost engine with sporty dual exhausts. There might also be a V8 option and a hybrid version. The interior will be simple and capable of shrugging off all the mud and sand and dirt you'll probably allow inside. You'll most likely be sitting on durable onyx seats so have fun out there.
